About Dan Boyd

Dan began photographing auto racing at Sebring in 1970. His first professional position was working with Chicago based UOP Shadow from 1973 through 1977, covering Formula One, CanAm, and F-5000 series for that team. He then began working as a freelance photographer for teams, sponsors and magazines from 1978 TO 1985, while also engaged as a photography teacher and creating travelogue movies. Then, in 1985, he accepted the position as the full time CART photographer, which he held until 1995.

Dan is now the chief photographer for American Lemans Series (ALMS), but is also covering the new Indy Racing League (IRL) series and the Champ Car series.

Throughout his career, Dan has practiced his trade for corporate clients such as Marlboro, Quaker State, Domino's Pizza, Valvoline, Porsche N.A., Budweiser, K-Mart, Texaco/Chevron, Motorola, etc. He has also done photography for many racing teams, including Galles Racing, Walker Racing, Newman/Haas Racing, PacWest Racing, PKV Racing, among others.

Dan's educational background began with Naval Photo School while actively pursuing photography in the US Coast Guard. Schooling continued at Rochester Institute of Technology with an Associates in Professional/Commercial/Studio Photography and finished with a Masters degree from Ball State in Photography.
